WHAT IS MIPS?
The Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) is the latest safety innovation in equestrian helmets.
Concussions (bruises to the brain) are caused by the brain moving within the skull, usually as a result of impact to the head. High-velocity impact can cause additional injuries such as swelling and bleeding in the brain cavity.
The MIPS Technology seeks to reduce brain movement within the skull by adding a low-friction layer inside the helmet. The limited movement of this layer helps absorb the force of an impact thereby reducing the amount of movement of the rider’s brain.
